To open the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Utah has striped Rice-Eccles Stadium, and now for 2016, they are asking fans to checker Rice-Eccles Stadium for their game today, Thursday Sept. 1, against the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds at 6:00 p.m. MT. If you cannot make it to the game, make sure to watch on Pac-12 Network to see the game and checkered stadium. The stripe the stadium Utah did twice worked really well and looked great in both instances. Tennessee checkered Neyland Stadium against Florida in 2014 and will again in 2016. Here is a time lapse video of Neyland Stadium for the Florida game in 2014.
Utah will wear white-crimson-white for their uniform in the game, tying it into the white and crimson checkering of the stadium. More information on what color to wear in your specific section can be found here from UtahUtes.com (which is also where the above seating map comes from). This could turn out really well and look great, but fans have to do their part to make this a success.
