Sunia Tauteoli named Bronco Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week

NCAA Football: Brigham Young at Utah Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

How about some more good news! In case you haven’t heard, earlier today, Sunia Tauteoli was named the Bronco Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week. Sunia was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week yesterday, so it’s been a good couple of days for Utah’s newest starting linebacker.

Sunia had a great game against BYU this past weekend, including six tackles and two interceptions. His first interception went back for six on the first play of the game, after a poor Taysom Hill throw to open up play. His second pick was very Gionni Paul like, when Hunter Dimick got a good hit on Hill, popping the ball up into the air, and Sunia dove under the ball for the interception.

Both Sunia and Cody Barton have shown to be a good pair of linebackers in their first couple of games starting, and they’ll need to be good going forward, as Pac-12 play is looming just a week away.

Congrats Sunia!
