Uniform and helmet news is a big deal, especially when Utah unveils a new helmet, like they did just before the USC game. Utah will be sporting the new “Handcrafted” helmet for the blackout game, and it’s, as the kids call it, fire. The drum and feather look airbrushed onto the helmet, and there is a glossy black with some sparkle to it. Whew, I dig this look, it’s very unique.
Utah was initially going with the black helmet with the large, chrome drum and feather, but it appeares they unveiled the new helmet to the players within the last day or so. A nice kept secret that no doubt the players love, and I know I’m a fan of.
What are your thoughts on this helmet? Would you have preferred to see something different, or is there a helmet look we’re yet to see that you’d like?
Love blackout games, they’re the best.
Utah athletics just released this via their Twitter and UtahUtes.com
“SALT LAKE CITY—For tonight's blackout game against USC, the Utes are debuting new designer black helmets. An artist individually hand-painted each helmet and no two helmets are exactly alike. The helmets reflect a granite texture and each has its own unique serial number painted on it.
The design was conceived by Utah director of equipment operations Kelly Sharitt and his assistant Cody Heidbreder and the helmets will work with any Utah uniform combination. The helmets were made possible through a generous donation by Dave and Julie Layton of Layton Construction.”
