South Jordan (Utah) Bingham defensive tackle Jay Tufele had a monster week at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and received a ratings bump in the final recruiting rankings. Two recruiting sites, 247Sports (No. 14) and Scout (No. 36) bumped Jay Tufele up to a five-star recruit. He is one of the highest rated four-star recruits on Rivals (No. 37). Only ESPN has Tufele outside the top 100 (No. 119). Using the 247Sports Composite ranking, Tufele is a four-star recruit (No. 41).

Tufele is the top player in the state of Utah in 2017, and he is Utah’s top target for their 2017 recruiting class. He has a top five with BYU, Michigan, Ohio State, USC, and Utah. His final decision will likely be between USC and Utah with Ohio State having an outside chance. Utah is the leader in the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but the two most recent predictions have come in for USC and are from 247Sports National Recruiting Insider Ryan Bartow and 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

Tufele just took an official visit to USC last weekend, and it apparently went very well. USC also hosted Independence (Ore.) Central four-star defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu the same weekend and flipped the long-time Washington commit. Tufele and Tuipulotu were a terrifying twosome for opposing offensive linemen at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and may want to play together in college.

He had an in-home visit with Michigan and will have one with Ohio State (including head coach Urban Meyer) today. Most of the Utah coaching staff had an in-home visit with him shortly after he returned from his official visit to BYU on Jan. 15.

USC might be the leader for the Bingham star after a great visit. Ohio State and Michigan are both still pushing hard as well. Utah will have the final say with Tufele though. They host the standout defensive tackle this weekend, the final weekend before National Signing Day. His recruitment is far from over and will likely come down to National Signing Day.
