A blow out is what happened on Saturday afternoon, but the score doesn't really reflect it. The Utes led by almost 30 points in the second half before Coach K made a mass sub at about the 12 minute mark of the game. Oregon State would rally to make things a bit uncomfortable, cutting Utah’s lead down to 7, but Utah would close it out with the 86-78 win, giving Utah the split at home this week over the Oregon schools.
Utah finally started to get the separation from the Beavers in the first half when Lorenzo Bonam hit a contested three at the buzzer. The Utes carried that momentum into the second half to build that big lead
Utah was led by Kyle Kuzma’s double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Kuz was very efficient from the floor by shooting 7-of-10, and just 1-of-2 from deep. Kuz has been in a nice attacking mode for a while now, and he needs to keep it up. David Collette pitched in 13 points and JoJo Zamora had 11. One rebound by Collette just isn't going to cut it. Parker Van Dyke also had 11 but also was 3-of-3 from deep.
Devon Daniels didn't start the game due to being late to some meetings and such this week, but he did score nine points of his own. Gabe Bealer did start in his place but only played 11 minutes to Daniels 24.
Basically, Utah took care of business and beat the last place team in the league. Next up for the Utes is a trip to the Bay Area, for a couple of games they really can't lose if they want a chance at the tournament.
