Former Arizona linebacker Cody Ippolito announced via his Twitter account today that he will be transferring to Utah for his final season. He will be eligible to play immediately since he is a graduate transfer. Ippolito, whose Arizona career was marred by injuries, will be seeking a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA. He will be at Utah for spring football but is not guaranteed a scholarship, so he will start his Utah career as a walk-on.
Playing my last season at University of Utah. Want to thank Coach Whittingham for taking me into their program. #GoUtes— Cody Ippolito (@CodyIpp57) January 9, 2017
In his career at Arizona, Ippolito recorded 80 tackles and 10.5 tackles for loss, but he only played in 20 games due to injuries. The biggest question mark with Ippolito is can he stay healthy? He has suffered season-ending injuries three times. He will help add depth at linebacker, a position that was a bit thin for Utah last year after graduating all three senior starters from 2015. It is never a bad thing getting a player from a Pac-12 South rival. Welcome to Utah!
