Game balls for the Stanford game

NCAA Football: Stanford at Utah Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

The Utah Utes drop to 1-1 in Pac -12 play with their loss to the Arizona Cardinal Saturday night. Here are my game balls for week 5:

Offense: Zack Moss

Despite a questionable Utah offense Saturday night, the running game didn’t look too shabby. Zack Moss led the Utes in rushing. He ran for a season-high 79 yards on 15 carries with a two-yard touchdown run. Moss has three rushing touchdowns this season, tying for the team lead.

Defense: Sunia Tauteoli

The most important assignment for Utah’s defense was to stop Bryce Love. They didn’t shut him down completely but they gave Love one heck of a tough night. Love only had 66 yards throughout the first three quarters then a big 68-yard run for a touchdown (I don’t want to talk about that – it’s still a sore topic). The name that stands out to me for the Ute’s defense this week is Sunia Tauteoli. The senior led Utah in tackles for the third time this season with 11 – that’s also a career high. Tauteoli had a team-high 3.5 tackles for loss on the night.

Special Teams: Matt Gay

Matt Gay is nothing short of amazing. Although he missed his first field goal of the season, he made up for it in the 4th quarter. After a Utah touchdown with 44 seconds left on the clock, the holder wobbled the ball as Gay started making his kick. Gay then did a sort of stutter step like he was on the basketball court and barely got the kick over. It was awesome!

Honorable mention: Darren Carrington

Darren Carrington led Utah in receiving with seven catches for 99 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
