Are the Utah Utes back on track? Utah fans are rejoicing after the Utes seemed to get back on track Friday night — leaving Rice Eccles Stadium with a 48-17 win over the UCLA Bruins. So who gets game balls this week? Here goes:
Offense: Tyler Huntley
Tyler Huntley finished the night completing 15 of 22 passes for 234 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Huntley also rushed for 93 yards on 18 attempts.
The quarterback’s first touchdown pass came on a 25-yard strike to Darren Carrington (Carrington made the play with one foot down in the end zone). Huntley’s second touchdown pass came in the third quarter when he found a wide-open Troy McCormick out of the backfield for a 75-yard touchdown. In the same quarter, just over two minutes later, Huntley hit McCormick again on a 13-yard touchdown pass. Huntley threw his final touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to Cody Ippolito.
Defense: Caleb Repp
Caleb Repp rattled the ball away from UCLA’s Mossi Johnson on the return. That allowed Boobie Hobbs to recover it on the 16-yard line, which resulted in great field position for the Utes. This helped set the tone in Utah’s defense which has been lackluster for most of the season thus far.
Special Teams: Matt Gay
Matt Gay made both of his field goal attempts including one for 50 yards.
Honorable Mention: Zack Moss
Not only did Zack Moss end the game with two touchdown runs, he also set a career high, raking in 153 rushing yards.
