Notes from today’s Utah football media session

NCAA Football: Colorado at Utah Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Coach Whittingham met with the media today as he continues to prepare for the bowl matchup against West Virginia the day after Christmas. It’ll be a busy couple of days for the coaches as the early signing period starts on Wednesday, and you combine that with bowl prep, the coaches are putting in some hours.

Coach Whitt did say some interesting things today, and are a some things that jumped out to me.

Tyler Huntley: Coach said that the starting QB is 100% for the bowl game, which is great news, because the more reps he can put in, the better for the team going into next season. I do wonder if we’ll see Troy Williams get any reps, of if it’ll be all Tyler.

Cooper Bateman: This came out a few days ago, but Bateman has left the team and will not participate in any activities around the bowl game. This is interesting to me, but of course, his career is done, and maybe he has something lined up, post football. Drew Lisk will be the 3rd string QB for the bowl.

Jaylon Johnson: The stud freshman will miss the bowl game with an injury. He had surgery last week, and he of course missed the CU game. I didn’t hear any timeline on when he’ll be back.

Darren Carrington: Sounds like he’s a go.
