Salt Lake City (Utah) East three-star defensive lineman Paul Maile committed to the hometown Utah Utes yesterday. Maile is a top 10 prospect in the state of Utah in the 2018 class and chose to stay home over offers from Arizona, Cal, Georgia Tech, Oregon State, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and Wisconsin among others. He is the 11th commit for Utah’s 2018 recruiting class.

The 6’ 4”, 273-pound local standout can play both inside and outside on the defensive line. I like this pickup a lot for Utah. Maile is quick and sheds blocks well. He has the skills to be a great defensive lineman at Utah. At 273 pounds and 6’ 4” as a senior in high school, Maile already has great size. I would not be surprised to see him add some good weight and move inside full time to play defensive tackle. It is also possible he plays a role similar to current Utah defensive lineman Filipo Mokofisi where he can play inside or outside on the defensive line. Keeping local prospects home is always a great thing, Maile is a Utah legacy with his father, Henry Kaufusi, a former Ute as well as several of his uncles.
