Utah Football Signs QB Jason Shelley

Utah football has announced the signing of Frisco (Texas) Lone Star three-star quarterback Jason Shelley. The 6’ 0”, 178 pound quarterback dazzled in a nationally televised game on ESPNU to start his senior season at the Dallas Cowboys practice facility in Frisco, Texas. Shelley committed to Utah back in July and has not wavered since. He chose Utah over an offer from hometown SMU. He also had interest from Clemson under former offensive coordinator (and current SMU head coach) Chad Morris.

There is a lot to like about Shelley. He is a true dual-threat quarterback. Despite his running ability, he keeps his eyes downfield and looks to throw first and only runs if he has a big lane or cannot find anyone to throw the ball to. He is an accurate passer and can throw the deep ball well. As a runner, he has good speed and the ability to make defenders miss.

Shelley is the only quarterback in Utah’s 2017 class. I expect him to redshirt in 2017 before competing for the starting quarterback job in 2018.
