Utah Football Signs CB Javelin Guidry

Utah football signs Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta cornerback Javelin Guidry. Guidry committed to Utah under a week ago over Texas. He was previously committed to Houston when current Texas head coach Tom Herman was the head coach of the Cougars. Guidry is originally from Texas, and he took his final official visit to Austin, but he ultimately decided Utah was the right place for him. He also held offers from Arizona State, Boise State, Houston, Iowa State, Oregon State, and Washington State.

Guidry, who is 5’ 10”, 180 pounds, is one of the fastest recruits in the country, running a legitimate 4.35 40-yard dash. He has great technique and the speed to cover receivers. He will slide into the slot for Utah to play nickel back. Defensive backs were an emphasis in this class with five out of six of Utah’s 2016 key contributors in the secondary gone. Guidry might also get some looks to return kicks and/or punts given his speed.
