The No. 5 Utah Red Rocks (10-1, 5-1 Pac-12) have their final meet of the regular season at rival No. 7 Georgia (6-6, 4-3 SEC). The meet will start at 4:00 p.m. EST local time and 2:00 p.m. MST in Athens, Ga. You can live stream the meet on SEC+ here.
These two teams have combined for 20 national championships. No other gymnastics programs can match the 10 national championships each of these teams has won. These heated rivals have battled for years at the national level. Georgia holds the series lead 27-25-1. Utah has won the last two meets however. Utah is only 3-11 in Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, with the last Red Rocks victory coming there back in 2011. Georgia’s season high is a 197.325, which came in their home opening loss to Alabama, their only home loss so far this season.
According to co-head coach Megan Marsden, the Red Rocks will have to perform better than they did in the meet against Stanford if they want to leave Athens with a win. Utah, for the first time all season per Marsden, was shaken on beam against Stanford after sophomore MaKenna Merrell suffered a fall.
Utah’s amazing freshman MyKayla Skinner is setting records this season. She tied former Red Rock Ashley Postell for the highest all-around score by a freshman with a 39.775 in Utah’s quad meet. She has won Pac-12 Gymnastic of the Week a record seven times, shattering the previous record of four. Skinner posted her first career 10.0 on floor against Stanford. Skinner’s 34 wins this season are seventh all-time for a single-season in Utah history.
