Utah to face Boise State in 2017 NIT

NCAA Basketball: Utah at Colorado Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Utes are NIT bound, and now they know their opponent. The Boise State Broncos of the Mountain West will be making a trip to the Huntsman Center Tuesday at 8 pm. The Broncos were 19-11 on the season and 12-5 in the Mountain West. They did have a winning record on the road at 7-6.

The Bronocs gave Oregon all they could handle in the pre-season, although, Oregon was without Brooks, who was recovering from an injury. Boise did lose both games to Nevada, the MWC Champ, one in a competitive fashion, the other not so much. Overall, just doing some surface level research on BSU, they seem to be competitive, but a team Utah should beat if they play smart basketball.

Utah last played Boise three seasons ago and lost in Boise. Coincidentally, that was the last season Utah was in the NIT. That was a very good BSU team that season, while Utah was just figuring out the whole “winning” thing. Should Utah win, they’ll play the winner of Illinois and Valparaiso.

Utah is joined by Cal and Colorado in the NIT field, all competing for a chance to get to New York City.

Here’s the full bracket.
