Utah has their annual Red-White spring game on Saturday April 15 at 11 a.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium. For the second year in a row, it will be all red versus all white. The red team will wear the traditional red helmets with a black facemask, red throwback jerseys, and red pants. The white team wil wear the white helmet with red facemask, white jersey, and white pants. This marks the first time since last year’s Red-White game that we have seen the traditional red helmets. When Utah wore a red helmet during the 2016 football season, it was always the satin red helmet. Since the introduction of the satin red helmet for the 2015 season opener against Michigan, Utah has only worn the traditional red helmet once (in the 2015 away game at Fresno State).
I wish we would see the satin red helmets for the spring game, but I believe they have to be repaired/reconditioned after each season. The white team will use the mountain sleeve jerseys. Utah traditionally gets uniforms every three years, and last season was the third year of the mountain jerseys, so this could be the last time we see these uniforms, as new jerseys/pants very likely could be announced this summer.
