Podcast: Red Rocks Advance to Super Six

Utah Red Rocks Make Super Six

Posted by Block U on Saturday, April 15, 2017

I decided to do a second video podcast edition of the U Fan Cast in the new format we are trying with just me doing the podcast and sticking to one topic rather than doing a longer podcast with multiple topics covered. We did another podcast like this yesterday covering the Red-White game, which you can find here. For this edition, I am talking Red Rocks Gymnastics. The Red Rocks qualified for the Super Six last night for the first time since 2015, when they finished second. The Super Six is tonight at 7:00 p.m. MT on ESPNU The Red Rocks scored a 197.0500 and finished third in the semifinal behind Oklahoma (197.725) and UCLA (197.500). For a more detailed write-up on the meet, you can read this article.

The Red Rocks were led by freshman extraordinaire MyKayla Skinner, who posted the best score for the Red Rocks on each event. She won the all-around, floor, and vault in the Semifinal I, and she was named the NCAA floor champion. She also placed second in the all-around. She is only the third NCAA floor champion in school history and only the fifth freshman event champion in school history. Skinner’s big win was covered in more detail here.

This will also be Baely Rowe’s final meet as a Red Rock. She has had an amazing career at Utah and is the lone senior on the team this year. To read more about her last meet, check out this article.

Sound off in the comments below what you think about the new podcast format and how excited you are for the Super Six tonight at 7:00 p.m. MT.
