Utah Runnin’ Utes sign former BYU commit Christian PoPoola Jr

Quite a couple of days for both the football and basketball programs on the recruiting front. The Utes added to their basketball class when they signed Donnie Tillman and Justin Bibbins within the past week, and have now added Christian PoPoola Jr, a former Lone Peak player who made his way down to Vegas and Bishop Gorman High School.

PoPoola was committed to BYU back in the fall, but according to our friends at Vanquish the Foe, BYU’s staff stopped recruiting him after he didn’t sign early on back in January, thus likely pushing him away from his commitment and why he’ll be wearing red this year. I’d recommend checking out their piece for some more of the back story on why PoPoola isn’t calling Provo home.

The Utes are getting a 247sports 3-star rated combo guard who is 6’ 4” and about a 190 pounds. He’s listed as a combo guard, and has some crazy athleticsim, which is always welcome in the Pac-12. PoPoola was getting interest from many Pac-12 teams, and other schools out west, including SDSU and UNLV. Coach K has put together a nice class, even though he missed on some big names.
