Dolphins Trade Up to Take G Isaac Asiata in 5th Round

NCAA Football: Foster Farms Bowl-Indiana vs Utah Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

In the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins moved up to draft former Utah offensive guard Isaac Asiata with pick No. 164. The Dolphins traded with the Philadelphia Eagles to draft the talented guard. Asiata is the fourth former Ute to get drafted so far in the 2017 NFL Draft and the second today.

Asiata started in all four years at Utah after returning from an LDS Church Mission. He is a powerful player and is excellent in run blocking mauling defenders. He paved the way all year in 2016 for fellow day three draftee Joe Williams and for Devontae Booker in 2015. As a senior, Asiata won the Morris Trophy which is given to the best offensive and defensive lineman in the Pac-12 as voted on by the starting defensive linemen in the Pac-12. He was also a second-team All-Pac-12 selection in 2016. Asiata was a great player for Utah and always represented the University well, and now he gets to take his talents to South Beach.
