Pita Taumoepenu Headed to 49ers

NFL: Combine Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers have drafted another former Utah player in the 2017 NFL Draft after taking Utah defensive end Pita Taumoepenu with pick No. 202 in the sixth round. Taumoepenu became the eighth Ute selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. He will be joined in San Francisco by teammate running back Joe Williams, who the 49ers traded up to draft in the fourth round.

He played defensive end at Utah and was a pass rush specialist. He is a quick twitch athlete off the edge who causes havoc in opposing backfields. Prior to Utah, he only played on year of high school football after moving to the state of Utah from Tonga. In the NFL, he will likely switch to outside linebacker like many former Utah pass rushing defensive ends have. He has a relentless motor. He is a hard worker and gives 100% effort on every play.
