Utah softball falls to Washington in game one of Super Regional

The Utes find themselves in the Super Regionals for the second straight year, this time to fellow Pac-12 opponent Washington. The Utes trailed the entire game versus the Huskies, and eventually dropped game one 10-3.

UW jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after two innings, and Utah had a nice rally in the 4th after singles by Hannah Flippen and Bridget Castro singled to set up Kelly Martinez, who hit a deep shot to pull the Utes to within two runs. The rally only put off the inevitable, as the Huskies put the game away in the bottom of the inning with a grand slam. After that, the Utes weren’t able to counter the remainder of the game, although they did get close when they loaded the bases in the ninth and Alyssa Barrera drove in a run with a grounder to short, but weren’t able to capitalize on it further.

The two teams will square off today at 7pm, where Utah will have to win to extend the series to a game three Sunday.
