Dixie High School sophomore pitcher Kayler Yates shook things up on social media Sunday when he took to Twitter to announce his commitment to play baseball at the University of Utah.
“Proud to announce that I have committed to play Division 1 baseball at the University of Utah,” Yates tweeted.
According to a photo retweeted on his account, Yates, who is probably still on cloud 9 after he helped lead the Flyers to their first 3A state championship since 2006, will be an infielder for the Utes come 2019.
According to MaxPreps, Yates, who plays varsity for the Flyers, has played 27 games and holds a batting average of .289, with a .434 on base percentage, 22 hits, 13 runs batted in, and 20 runs. Yates played three games with the junior varsity team where he nailed one home run.
Back in 2013, Yates represented the United States at the Under-12 International Baseball Federation World Cup in Taiwan.
