Which 2017 Utah football game do you have circled on the calendar?

NCAA Football: Sun Bowl-Stanford vs North Carolina Ivan Pierre Aguirre-USA TODAY Sports

It’s summer, with not a lot is going on, and we are about 80 days away from the kick off of college football season. With that said, we are all counting down the days until the season starts, and we’ve all looked over the schedule and have circled games that we can’t wait for. For me, there are many games I look forward to, especially now in the Pac-12, I mean, there are no Wagners on the November schedule.

The number one game I have circled on the schedule is the October 7th matchup at Rice-Eccles Stadium against Stanford. This will be a great litmus test of Utah’s toughness, as this is usually a game that is played in a phone booth. Utah is 2-0 against Stanford since joining the league, and is usually a good matchup. Utah has always matched up well with pro-style, downhill teams. It’s very much strength on strength.

The 2016 Cardinal finished the season 10-3, and won 7 of their last 8 games, and did a lot of that with Christian McCaffery hurt. The Cardinal are also bringing in a very good recruiting class, and will likely have a group of hogs up from that can road grade. This will be a very nice test for a new offensive line that Utah will be rolling out, and should be a game that will test Utah’s defensive line, considering how Stanford likes to play.

A big question in a game like this will be how the QBs play. Troy Williams has shown a lot of promise, especially in games like against USC. Stanford is usually stout up front, and Utah’s offensive line will likely still be figuring things out, so it will be important for Williams to take care of the ball and make smart decisions.

A game like this could set the tone for the rest of the season, and could help build Utah’s confidence as they head down the long haul of the Pac-12 schedule.
