The Utah men’s basketball team is heading to Europe! The Runnin’ Utes are set to travel abroad on a 10-day European Tour, which will take them through Barcelona, Spain, and Paris, France. The squad will head out Saturday, August 5th and will return to campus on Tuesday, August 15th.
The Utes will do more sightseeing than playing. They’re only playing a total of three games throughout the tour, taking on a pair of teams while in Barcelona and then playing one contest during its time in Paris.
BARCELONA ITINERARY
Aug. 6 – Orientation walk, practice, welcome dinner
Aug. 7 – Sightseeing, game one (Sant Julià All-Stars)
Aug. 8 – Sightseeing, leisure day
Aug. 9 – Sightseeing, game two (Dax Gamarde Basket)
Aug. 10 – Travel to Cambrils, catamaran cruise
La Sagrada Familia, an Antoni Gaudi designed church that has been under construction since 1882, the Barceloneta boardwalk, LaBoqueria Food Market, and Cambrils, which located along the 'Costa Daurada' (Golden Coast), are all on the agenda to see in Barcelona.
During the trip to Spain the Utes will face the Sant Julià All-Stars on Monday, August 7th and then take on Dax Gamarde Basketball Club a few days later on Wednesday, August 9th.
PARIS ITINERARY
Aug. 11 – Flight to Paris, practice, sightseeing, cruise
Aug. 12 – Sightseeing, game three (TBA)
Aug. 13 – Sightseeing, leisure day
Aug. 14 – Sightseeing, farewell dinner
While in Paris, Utah will visit the Latin Quarter, the Montmartre District and the Eiffel Tower. The Latin Quarter, centered on the Sorbonne's main university campus, is home to some outstanding museums and churches, along with Paris' botanic gardens. Meanwhile, Montmartre Hill is where the team will visit the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
The final game, said to be played in Paris, will take place Saturday, August 12th. The opponent is yet to be announced.
