San Diego (Calif.) Mission Bay three-star running back Kenyon Sims announced his commitment to Utah this evening, the fourth in Utah’s 2018 recruiting class. The 5’11”, 195 running back is the second San Diego player to commit to Utah in the 2018 class along with four-star quarterback Jack Tuttle, who hinted at this commitment last night on Twitter and made a cameo at the end of Sims’ commitment video. Sims held other Power 5 offers from Arizona and Washington State.

Watching his film, one word comes to mind to describe Sims: explosive. He is a threat to bust a big play whenever he touches the football with his 4.5 speed. He runs with great balance and has excellent vision. He sees the hole and can make the necessary cuts to get there, and he is hard to bring down. Sims is a dangerous receiving threat out of the backfield as well, which we are learning is a key skill in the new offense. According to his Hudl highlights, he rushed for 22 touchdowns and totaled 1,400 all-purpose yards as a junior. Explosive playmakers like Sims will be a great fit in offensive coordinator Troy Taylor’s system.
