He released a top five including Alabama, Nebraska, USC, Utah, and Washington. Latu was previously committed to BYU before opening up his recruitment and blowing up.:00 p.m. Latu competed at The Opening in Beaverton, Ore. in July. He is the top-rated defensive end in the West according to Scout. The 247Sports Crystal Ball gives the edge to Alabama with six predictions for Bama and five for USC; however, all of the predictions for USC are from February and March, and the last five predictions have all been for Alabama.
I expect Latu to announce his commitment to Alabama, but per UteZone.com’s Andrew Gorringe, Utah is not completely out of the running, and it is likely between Utah and Bama with Bama being the most likely choice. Latu has the speed off the edge that Utah loves in their defensive ends, and the Utes have made him a priority recruit. However, it is hard to avoid the allure of Alabama, a place where Latu has visited unofficially three times. While Alabama seems like it will be the choice, Latu is the No. 2 rated player in Utah and the best defensive end in the West, and Utah has a shot, so this is an announcement worth paying attention to.
