We have an inordinate number of WR this year, will the starters be better than last year?
Last year's top 6 WR:
Tim Patrick
Raelon Singleton
Corey Butler Byrd
Tyrone Smith
Damari Simpkins
Siaosi Wilson
This year's top six appears to be:
Raelon Singleton
Darren Carrington
Damari Simpkins
Siaosi Wilson
Troy McCormick
Kyle Fulks
In my opinion, for this year's group to be better than last year's, at least 2 or maybe even 3 of the freshmen or unknown transfers coming in will need to unseat 2 or 3 of those top six.
Patrick vs Carrington is probably a wash, both are potential NFL talent
Singleton is Singleton
Butler Byrd was much better than Simpkins
Wilson is Wilson
Tyrone Smith vs Fulks and McCormick - none of them were reliable but Smith at least had some TD receptions to his credit.
So the new guys are Boyd, Nurse, Hampton, Thompson, Nacua, Dixon. Will two or three of them be able to beat out Simpkins, Wilson, McCormick, or Fulks for a spot in top 6? Seems like everyone is optimistic about WR position because we have so many new guys. Problem is only three or four will be actually playing regularly, the rest will be spectators. Twelve scholarship WR means we're thin at some other position, like O-line. The number of WRs means nothing, the only thing that matters is how good the top four WR are.
