The University of Utah women’s basketball team is set to head to the Grand Canyon state this week to battle it out against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday, and Arizona on Sunday.
As of now, Utah sits at number seven in the Pac - 12 Conference. They are 3-3 in conference play and 12- 5 overall.
Looking for a win against a number four Arizona State will be tough, but the Utes can definitely pull it out. The Sun Devils will enter the game against Utah 13-5 overall and 4-2 in Pac-12 play, ranking Number 22 in this week’s AP Poll. The Sun Devils were on a six-game winning streak heading into their weekend in Oregon, but dropped both contests against Oregon State (57-54) and Oregon (74-64). ASU keeps a close eye on the ball during games, ranking 11th in the NCAA in fewest turnovers (11.4 per game), also ranking sixth nationally in assist/turnover ratio. ASU is led by Kianna Ibis, who is averaging 13.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
Although you never want to look past an opponent, Utah’s matchup against Arizona should be a breeze. The Wildcats open the weekend with a 4-13 overall record and have yet to win a game in Pac-12 play (0-6). Their last win came in the non-conference finale against Southern Utah on January 20 and have been on a six-game losing streak that began with an 89-55 loss on the road against the Utes. Arizona is led in scoring by JaLea Bennett who is averaging 15.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, ranking ninth in the Pac-12 through 17 games.
