Utes top WSU 82-69 to finish Washington sweep

NCAA Basketball: Washington State at Utah Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Utah has successfully rebounded from a terrible LA trip with a nice two game swing against the Washington schools at home. Utah has rebounded to even their Pac-12 record at 4-4, and hopefully can carry over some of this momentum to the road where they take on the Arizona schools this next week.

Tonight was the night of Tyler Rawson, who couldn’t miss from the floor, well, almost. He went 8 of 10 from the floor including 6 of 7 from deep, and he ended up with 22 points and 6 rebounds. A really nice night for Tyler, who can provide a major boost for the Utes, and is coming off of some rough games the last couple of weeks. If he can be the stretch four for this team, and consistently give the Utes 12 or so points, that’ll be huge.

Justin Bibbins was reliable, as always, and noticed a nice double-double with 13 points and 12 assists, while only turning the ball over twice. The dude is in a zone and hopefully he can keep it up for the next ten games and into March. Pitching in off the bench was Sedric Barefield and Gabe Bealer. With 14 and 15 points respectivley, that’s one heck of a punch off the bench. With Barefield, I wonder if coming off the bench will be best for him going forward. That way he can let the game come to him and let Bibbins run the show with the first team.

Defensively, the Utes were pretty solid, giving up 44% shooting and 36% from three. Obviously, WSU is a team that’s struggling, but if Utah can keep their oppposition to around those numbers, along with keeping them at around 70 points, they’ll be in good shape moving foward. That’s easier said then done, but Utah can’t win game consitently in the 80s or 90s.

Going to Arizona will be tough, and if they can find a way to split, that’s what this team needs. ASU is struggling and they look like the prime opponent to knock off down there. The Devils are the first team they get to take a crack at Thursday night, while they go to Tucson and take on Arizona on Saturday,
