Utah drops to Arizona 94-82

NCAA Basketball: Utah at Colorado Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Brittany is going to dive more into this game a little later, but here are some quick thoughts on this game, one where Utah lost 94-82 to Arizona.

Start better

The start for the Utes was bad. They were down 10-13 points early on in this game, after some pretty brutal offense, which we’ll see from Utah once a game. Utah would find a way to dig themselves out of the game, but ran out of gas with a few minutes remaining.

Can’t give up 90 points

Utah isn’t going to win many games when they give up 90 points, let alone 80+ points. They just don’t have the offensive firepower. The Utes gave up 50% shooting from the field, and 14 offensive boards (-10 for the Utes). The Utes got some good games tonight from Barefield, Bibbins, Collette and Rawson, but they just don’t have the bodies that can win games like that.

Rebounding killed

I stated above being -10 in boards hurts, especially at home. That helped lead to 23 second chance points for Arizona and 44 paint points for the ‘Cats. Utah was just too soft on the boards, and something that can’t continue to happen.

Overall, good fight by the Utes to get back into it, but they have to be much better against teams like this.
