The most important Pac-12 South game of the season for the Utah Utes (4-2, 2-2 Pac-12) happens tonight at 6:00 p.m. MT when the USC Trojans (4-2, 3-1 Pac-12) come to Rice-Eccles Stadium. The winner of this game will have the advantage in the Pac-12 South just over halfway through the season.
The game will be televised on Pac-12 Network. This marks the first time since USC hosted Utah in 2013 that USC has played a Pac-12 team with a winning record on Pac-12 Network. The game being on Pac-12 Network is not great for national exposure, but it does bring some clout to the network broadcasting such a key Pac-12 South game that has been a one score game in three of the last four meetings.
The home team has won the last five meetings in the series. Utah is hoping that continues to six with a win tonight against the Trojans. Expect a close, low scoring game. Both teams have better offenses than defenses. USC ranks in the top half of the Pac-12 in scoring defense, total defense, passing defense, and rushing defense. Utah leads the league in total defense, rushing defense, and is tied with Washington in scoring defense. Offensively, USC ranks ninth or worse in scoring offense, total offense, and rushing offense. Utah ranks in the bottom half of the conference in total offense and passing offense. USC has only won once as a road underdog under Clay Helton, and the Utes are 6.5-point home favorites.
