A month ago, who would have thought that the game on Friday, Oct. 26 between the No. 23 Utah Utes (5-2, 3-2 Pac-12) and the UCLA Bruins (2-5, 2-2 Pac-12), would be for first place in the Pac-12 South. But, that is exactly the case for this game under the lights in the Rose Bowl at 8:30 p.m. MT (7:30 p.m. local time) on ESPN.
The last time the Utes played in the Rose Bowl, Joe Williams set a school record with 332 rushing yards, helping the No. 19 Utes get the 52-45 win over UCLA in a surprisingly high-scoring game. Now, some Utah fans are wondering if Zack Moss can break Williams’s rushing record, which is also believed to be the highest total in the Rose Bowl. I would love to see him break it, but I think it is unlikely. Having watched Utah’s defense and UCLA’s offense this year, a shootout would surprise me, so if Moss goes off running the ball (a distinct possibility), I am not sure Utah would need him to play much, if at all, in the fourth quarter.
Do not expect a huge crowd at this game. L.A. Friday night traffic is likely to scare many fans away. Further, the Los Angeles Dodgers will host game three of the World Series tonight, which is likely to divert many other fans from this game at the Rose Bowl.
