Still waking up after that madness last night? Yeah, me too. The perfect cure for a winning hangover is some Utah hoops! The basketball is back in action today, as they take on Northwestern in the final game of the Wooden Legacy. It’s been an ok tournament for the Utes, as they dropped the opener to Hawaii and then led wire-to-wire against Grand Canyon. Hopefully the Utes can continue to improve on what we’ve seen, and that we see more consistent play. Sedrick Barefield is the player to watch today. After his 26 points on Friday, I’m curious to see how much of that he can replicate. I don’t think we’ll see the same type of performance, but Sed in the past has dropped considerably in games after big games. Hopefully the likes of Riley Battin, Both Gach and Timmy Allen can put together good performances today too, as all three played well the other night.
Here’s more on Northwestern per the official press release from UtahUtes.com:
Northwestern is 4-1 overall on the season, with its only loss coming in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy, falling to Fresno State (78-59) on Thursday. The Wildcats turned around and poured in 91 points and limited La Salle to just a 74-point effort in Friday’s win to advance to the fifth-place game.
The Wildcats opened the season with three straight home wins, picking up victories against New Orleans (82-52), American (63-51) and Binghamton (82-54).
UTAH VS. NORTHWESTERN SERIES HISTORY
This will mark just the fourth meeting between Utah and Northwestern. Utah leads the all-time series 2-1, but dropped the last contest the two teams played. The Utes fell 77-44 to the wildcats in San Juan, Puerto Rico, back on Dec. 21, 2006. Previous to that, Utah had defeated the Wildcats 73-63 in Portland, Ore., back on Dec. 29, 1980, and 88-69 in the initial meeting, which took place in Salt Lake City back on Dec. 23, 1971.
