Justin Ena to follow Gary Andersen to Utah State

NCAA Football: Arizona at Utah Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Well, as the coaching carousel happens, especially when a Utah staffer takes a head coaching job some guys are going to follow. That’s the case with Justin Ena, the Utah linebacker coach, who is following Gary Andersen to Utah State to be his defensive coordinator. Ena has been at Utah for four seasons, and has done a nice job with the linebackers the last couple of seasons. I’m not sure if he’s ready for a defensive coordinator spot, but he’s a really good coach.

After losing Andersen the Utes filled his opening with Sione Po’uha. Now the Utes have another opening, again on defense, the question now is who do they target? I know there are some guys potentially up at Weber State on Jay Hill’s staff that may have interest. Regardless, even with the losses of Chase Hansen and Cody Barton, there is quite a bit of talent coming back for that group, including Francis Bernard, Donovan Thompson, and incoming transfer Manny Bowen from Penn State.

I’m not sure if Andersen will take anybody else from Utah’s staff, but there are some thoughts he may look to Provo to grab some offensive guys, and one name is Aaron Roderick. A-Rod and Coach A were both at SUU before Coach Whitt brought them up on his staff. It will be an interesting story to follow over the next couple of weeks.
