After a great season by the Utah football, some post season honors are coming out now, and on Tuesday the Pac-12 named their all conference teams, and the Utes were all over the lists. The Utes had 17 total players on the various teams, and nine on the first team, most in the Pac-12.
Here’s how it broke down:
1st team:
Special teams:
Mitch Wishnowsky
Britain Covey
Matt Gay
Offense:
Jackson Barton
Jordan Agasiva
Defense:
Chase Hansen
Bradlee Anae
Jaylon Johnson
Leki Fotu
2nd team:
Offense:
Zack Moss
Defense:
Julian Blackmon
John Penisini
Marquise Blair
Honorable Mention:
Defense:
Cody Barton
Corrion Ballard
Javelin Guidry
Offense:
Lo Falekmaka
How about that? Utah’s defense had 10 of 11 starters named to an all-conference team. Thank about that for a second... 10 of them! And how about Julian Blackmon being named to the 2nd team, especially for those people that thought he really struggled this year. I wonder how much of that was that fact that he played opposite of Jaylon Johnson. I think Moss would have been first team if he would have finished the season, he had 1500 yards in him this year.
The fun thing for the Utes is that many of these players will be back next season, or should be back, depending on if the underclassmen decide to come back (**cough Zack Moss**).
Coach Whittingham and staff said before the season that this may be the most talented Utah team they've ever had, and I think a list like this shows that. With everyone on defense being named, well, almost everyone, and some names showing up on the offensive side of the ball, what a great group.
Now let’s go get a Holiday Bowl win with these guys.
