Sophomore gymnast MyKayla Skinner was named Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week for a record 10th time in her career, breaking the record of nine set by former UCLA gymnast Vanessa Zamarripa, who competed from 2009-13. Skinner posted a 39.675 in Utah’s 197.075-195.400 win over Arizona State on Friday, winning every event. This is the third time this season Skinner has been named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week (Jan. 9, 16 and Feb. 13) and the fourth time a Utah gymnast has won the award, with MaKenna Merrell-Giles winning it once (Feb. 6). She also holds the single-season record with seven that she set last season as a freshman. She ranks No. 2 in the nation in the all-around and is the defending Pac-12 champion in the all-around.
Maybe the most amazing part about this is the fact that Skinner is only halfway through her sophomore season. She has two and a half more years to compete with Utah gymnastics and continue to rake in awards.
