Utah Women’s Basketball team returns home to take on Washington schools

The University of Utah women’s basketball team will make its return to the Huntsman Center this week with a game on Friday vs. Washington State and a matchup against Washington on Sunday.

The Utes are coming off back-to-back road losses. Racking up these two wins at home before finishing up Pac - 12 play on the road would be very beneficial.

Although the Cougars are coming into Salt Lake City having lost six of their last seven games, they still pose a challenge. WSU houses one of the best scorers in the conference. Borislava Hristova is averaging 20.7 points per game in Pac-12 play.

It’s a similar story for the Huskies. They’re currently on a six game losing streak as they head to play Colorado on Friday. They are being led in scoring by Amber Melgoza, who is averaging 18.9 points per game in Pac-12 games.

Other notes from UtahUtes.com

Huff to 20: Megan Huff finished the game against California (2/11) with a career-high 27 points, her sixth time this season reaching the 20-point mark. The last time a Utah player scored 25+ points was against Creighton in 2015 when Emily Potter notched a career-best 28 points.

The Williams Swing: Against California (2/11), freshman Tori Williams scored 11 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter, rallying the Utes back from a double-digit deficit. Her 11 straight points got started on back-to-back-to-back three-pointers. It was the eighth game this season she has hit two-or-more threes in a game. She has 44 total this season, the most among all Pac-12 freshmen this season.

Dishing Dimes: Erika Bean tied her season-best in assists against California (2/11), dishing out 11. She also had 11 against Saint Mary’s in non-conference play. It was the 15th game this season that she has had five-or-more assists and the 38th in her career. It also marked the sixth time in her career that she had had a double-digit assist total.

Double Trouble: Through 14 games in Pac-12 play, Megan Huff is averaging 15.4 points per game while Daneesha Provo is pouring in 14.9. They are ranked 11th and 12th in the league in scoring with Utah being one of just three teams (Oregon, UCLA) in the Pac-12 to have two players ranked in the top-15 in points per game.

Hometown Hero: Through 11 games on the road, Emily Potter is only averaging 9.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, but when playing in the Jon M. Huntsman Center this season, Potter averages 12.9 points and 7.3 boards.

Points, Points, Points: This season, Utah is 14-3 when they score 70-or-more points compared to being 1-7 when scoring 70-or-less. Utah scored 74 points in its win over Washington and 81 against Washington State on the road in January.
