UCLA at Utah Open Thread

NCAA Basketball: Utah at UCLA Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

In case you have not heard, there is a huge game at the Huntsman Center tonight when the UCLA Bruins (19-8, 10-5) square off against the Utah Utes (17-9, 9-6). Utah is currently one game back of UCLA and USC for second place in the Pac-12. The game tips off at 7:00 p.m. MT and will be televised on ESPN, oh and there is an added treat with Bill Walton providing color commentary.

With the road sweep of the Washington schools, Utah became the only Pac-12 team this year to earn two road sweeps (having swept the Oregon schools earlier this year). UCLA completed a home sweep of the Oregon schools last week, needing overtime to beat the Ducks after blowing an 11-point lead.

The Bruins are tough at home, sitting at 14-2 in Pauley Pavilion, but on the road, UCLA is just 2-5 overall and only 2-4 in Pac-12 road games. With 1,054 rebounds and 39.04 rebounds per game, UCLA ranks first in the Pac-12 in both categories and are second in points per game with 82.6 (and 84.3 points per game on the road. While UCLA can score, they struggle to stop opponents from scoring, ranking 10th in the Pac-12 giving up 76.0 points per game. The Bruins are led by Aaron Holiday who averages 19.4 points on the season.

Currently, the Bruins are on a two game winning streak over the Runnin’ Utes. UCLA also leads the all-time series 10-7 against Utah and are 6-4 record since Utah joined the Pac-12. In Salt Lake City, Utah is 3-3 against UCLA. UCLA beat Utah 83-64 earlier this year in L.A.
