Athlon Sports ranks Utah No. 15 for coaching duos

NCAA Football: Heart of Dallas Bowl-Utah vs West Virginia Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Athlon Sports released a very interesting list that caught my attention, where they ranked the top 40 basketball/football coaching duos in the country. They ranked three Pac-12 schools in the top 15, with Utah falling at No. 15 on their list.

Here’s what they had to say about the Utes:

After a relatively rough transition from the Mountain West to the Pac-12, the Utah football program has averaged 8.8 wins over the last four seasons and is 19–17 in league play over that stretch under Whittingham. Krystkowiak has done a terrific job rebuilding the Utah basketball program. In his last three full seasons, the Utes are 13–5, 13–5 and 11–7 in the Pac-12.

They have Washington at No. 9 and UCLA at No. 14. The UCLA one really baffles me a bit, because I think they’re putting all of the credit in Chip Kelly’s camp, because I think Steve Alford is overrated, and has been since the MWC days at New Mexico. He’s had a ton of talent, but seems to under perform, at least in my opinion. They do make a good point about Washington, Chris Petersen is a given, but it’s impressive what Mike Hopkins has done with that basketball program, although they’re leaning more on Petersen on that one. Colorado, Stanford and Oregon all make the list as well, but much farther down the rankings. Head over there and take a peak at the full list, and where do you think Utah fits in the grand scheme of things?
