Here’s a name I’m excited to announce has signed on to join the Utah football team. Andrew Mata’afa from San Diego, Calif. signed his letter of intent to join the program. The three-star, 6’ 4”, 205 pound linebacker brings his talents to Utah, and has some high expectations to live up to, since his cousin Hercules terrorized the Pac-12 this past season, especially Utah. Mata’afa had offers from Wazzu, OSU, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and had some interest from Washington.
When you watch his film, Mata’afa likes to hit people. He’s a linebacker that likes to lay the wood, and that’s what you like to see from a backer. He’s a bit slight, so he needs to put on some weight, but it’s obvious the dude has some potential. His cousin wasn’t that big either for Wazzu, and played defensive line. I’d love to see what Mata’afa can do in the Utah training program, and how well he fits into the defensive scheme. He missed his senior season due to injury, which likely kept him from being a consensus four-star recruit (though he did get bumped up in the final 247Sports rankings).
Welcome to the family!
