Utah picked up a new signee from just up the street with East High’s three-star 6’ 3”, 250 pound defensive tackle and offensive guard Paul Maile joining the Utah football family. Keeping the family tradition alive and well, Maile joins his father Henry Kaufusi, and his uncles, Jason, Jeff and Doug Kaufusi as Utah football players. Maile had a nice list of schools that were competing for his services, including Arizona, Cal, Georgia Tech, Oregon State, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and Wisconsin among others.
The 6’ 4”, 273-pound local standout can play both inside and outside on the defensive line. I like this pickup a lot for Utah. Maile is quick and sheds blocks well. He has the skills to be a great defensive lineman at Utah. At 273 pounds and 6’ 4” as a senior in high school, Maile already has great size. I would not be surprised to see him add some good weight and move inside full time to play defensive tackle. It is also possible he plays a role similar to current Utah defensive lineman Filipo Mokofisi where he can play inside or outside on the defensive line.
