WR Tyquez Hampton to transfer out of program

The Utes lost a talented wide receiver with Tyquez Hampton announced on Twitter today that he has been granted his release from the program to transfer out.

Hampton came on campus a year ago as a highly recruited wide out, and was committed to Washington State for a long time, but flipped to Utah on signing day. Hampton showed a lot of potential during his first spring practice a year ago, and I was excited to see the youngster compete for a role moving forward. This spring, he didn’t see much time on the field, and I thought it was a sign that maybe he wouldn’t be with the team moving forward.

There could a number of reasons why the partnership between Hampton and the team didn’t work out, especially considering Utah has a lot of good talent at the wide receiver position, but it always hurts to see young talent leave the program.

Looks like, at least right away, Hampton won’t be going to another Pac-12 school, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up moving forward.

Best of luck to Hampton and the path he takes.
