Zack Moss named to the Maxwell Award watch list

NCAA Football: Heart of Dallas Bowl-Utah vs West Virginia Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Award watch list season is officially here, and one Ute finds themselves on one of the biggest lists in the land, and that’s the Maxwell Award watch list. The Maxwell Award is awarded to the nation’s player of the year — not to be confused with the Heisman. It’s junior running back Zack Moss that made this list. Moss rushed for 1173 yards last season, and really picked up steam as the season went along.

The winner of last season’s award was Baker Mayfield, the Heisman QB from Oklahoma, so you can see the level of player that wins this award. I’m not saying Moss can’t win this award, because I think he’s one of the 20 or best running backs in this country, but it’d take Utah making a run for a CFP spot and Moss helping to lead the team to get close to this one. He is going to be a force to be pay attention to as the season moves along, especially in the Pac-12. I do think he has an outside shot at Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year, of course, there are some excellent players that would likely be ahead of him, and rightfully so.

I can’t wait to see how the start running back picks up going into 2018.
