In the world of the NFL, many of the best players actually do not get drafted. Many of them get picked up as undrafted free agents, or get camp invites where they have the chance to make a name for themselves. That’s the case with four Utah football players.
Chase Hansen and Corrion Ballard each signed free agent contracts in the NFL shortly after the draft concluded. Chase is going to New Orleans to join up with Marcus Williams, while Corrion is going to Carolina, a franchise that has had many Utes through the years.
Jordan Agasiva and Lo Falemaka have both been invited to the Seattle Seahawks mini-camp, joining both Marquise Blair and Cody Barton in the Emerald City. How cool is it that one franchise, Seattle, is going to give four Utes a shot to make the roster? I love me some Pete Carrol right about now. I know Seattle has a strong fan base in SLC as well, so no doubt those fans are loving it.
You combine these four, with the five that were drafted (including Matt Gay, Mitch Wishnowsky and Jackson Barton), even though the senior class was small for the Utes, it obviously packed some punch.
Next years draft class for the Utes could potentially rival the one a few seasons ago where eight Utah players had their named called, and 16 total got an NFL shot.
I can’t wait to follow all these guys to see how they pan out through the summer, and hopefully into the season.
