Block U Summer Football Rankings: 100-91

NCAA Football: Texas at Kansas Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

With football season just around the corner, it’s time to take a look at where Utah stacks up compared to the rest of the nation. With 130 teams currently competing in Division 1, we’ve ranked each team using an equation that takes into account last season’s game results, returning players, coaching staff consistency, recruiting rankings over the last three seasons, transfers, and more. Each week, we will reveal 10 more teams, then revealing a final top 25 before the season officially starts on Saturday, August 24th.

100. Kansas

Big 12

2018 Record: 3-9

99. Temple

American Athletic Conference

2018 Record: 8-5

98. Ohio

Mid-American Conference

2018 Record: 9-4

97. Georgia State

Sun Belt

2018 Record: 2-10

Ranking Georgia State inside the top 100 may seem bold, especially considering their abysmal 2018 campaign, however much of last season’s freshman-heavy team is back after showing improvement throughout the course of their schedule. With 2018 growing pains out of the way, and two of the best recruiting classes in the conference through the last two years, Georgia State is poised to rebound and contend for a top spot in the Sun Belt.

96. Army

Independent

2018 Record: 11-2

Army will get plenty of love this year thanks to senior quarterback Kelvin Hopkins Jr., who is the first quarterback in Army history to surpass 1,000 passing AND rushing yards. Also back for the Knights are starting receivers Kjetil Cline and Cam Harrison, both of which add some stability for a mixed bag of veteran and young talent. Army’s ranking may seem low considering their recent success, but quick glance at their 2019 schedule includes meetings with Rice, UTSA, Morgan State, Tulane, Western Kentucky, Georgia State, San Jose State, UMASS and the Virginia Military Institute. With a schedule as weak as that, Army will once again have no problem collecting wins, but until their quality of opponent improves, its hard to justify giving Army too much credit.

95. Middle Tennessee

Conference USA

2018 Record: 8-6

94. Utah State

Mountain West

2018 Record: 11-2

The Aggies 2018 season propelled the team to unexpected heights, ranking as high as 14th in the AP Poll, their highest ranking since 1961, and finished the season ranked within the top 25 (finishing 22) for the first time since 2012. Unfortunately, that success led to the departure of head coach Matt Wells, and the veteran-laden class has been replaced with a bevy of graduate transfers. Thankfully for the Aggies, Gary Andersen returns as head coach after laying the foundation for USU’s current trajectory back during his first coaching stint with the team from 2009 to 2012. Utah State should again push Boise State for the top spot in the Mountain division thanks to their easy schedule, but its hard to find a team in the nation that is rebuilding as much as Utah State.

93. Tulane

American Athletic Conference

2018 Record: 7-6

92. Tulsa

American Athletic Conference

2018 Record: 3-9

Tulsa is due for a rebound after a disastrous 2018 season. Plagued with multiple quarterback injuries and an inexperienced defense, the Golden Hurricanes suffered through loss after loss with the hope of building enough experience to turn things around in 2019. If head coach Phil Montgomery’s offensive stars can remain healthy, there’s no reason Tulsa can’t grind out six wins.

91. North Texas

Conference USA

2018 Record: 9-4
