With football season just around the corner, it’s time to take a look at where Utah stacks up compared to the rest of the nation. With 130 teams currently competing in Division 1, we’ve ranked each team using an equation that takes into account last season’s game results, returning players, coaching staff consistency, recruiting rankings over the last three seasons, transfers, and more. Each week, we will reveal 10 more teams, then revealing a final top 25 before the season officially starts on Saturday, August 24th.
80. Houston
American Athletic Conference
2018 Record: 8-5
79. Georgia Tech
Atlantic Coast Conference
2018 Record: 7-6
78. Rutgers
Big 10
2018 Record: 1-11
Rutgers was statistically one of the worst teams in NCAA football in 2018, mustering just one win all season, and generally getting routed by most teams they came in contact with, included a 55-14 drubbing to lowly Kansas in week three, however a rebound is very possible for the Scarlet Knights. Sophomore quarterback Artur Sitkowski returns after ranking dead last among active division one quarterbacks last season, so there’s nowhere to go but up for the struggling signal caller. If things don’t pan out, Texas Tech graduate transfer McLane Carter could very well help change the narrative in New Jersey. The addition of Andy Buh at defensive coordinator in the off season also gives some reason for hope out east.
