You can really start to smell the college football season when media days roll around, and on Wednesday the Utes will be participating in Pac-12 media days in LA. Coach Whittingham is taking with him senior running back Zack Moss and senior defensive end Bradlee Anae. The contingent that Coach Whitt is taking is arguable the most star loaded that we’ve seen. I mean, don’t get me wrong, a offensive lineman and linebacker can be exciting, but I think a Heisman dark horse and a stud pass rusher will pull in a bit more attention.

The Utes should be picked by the media to win the Pac-12 South, as the reigning champions of the division and returning a ton of talent. The question is who will be named in the North? Oregon and Washington are the two front runners, the question is how much will people weigh on a returning QB, with the Ducks returning Justin Herbert.
Here’s how I’m thinking the divisions will be picked:
South
- Utah
- USC
- UCLA
- Arizona
- ASU
- Colorado
UCLA is getting a lot of run this off season, I know certain metrics like ESPN FPI likes them, but I don’t see it after a three win season, and by some twitter rumors it sounds like Chip Kelly may not be super popular with his players.
North
- Oregon
- Washington
- Stanford
- Wazzu
- Cal
- OSU
I think the Herbert factor will edge the Ducks in front of the Huskies for the North nod. I’m wondering if the media will have the guts to put Cal ahead of Wazzu. The Bears are very intriguing to me this season.
I also think the media will pick the Ducks to beat Utah in the Pac-12 title game, because Utah probably needs to prove it before people will really start to pick them.
Tomorrow is always a fun day, and it just means we are weeks away from Camp Kyle starting, and inch closer to the opener in Provo.
