The fifth ranked Utah gymnastics team opens up the PAC-12 portion of their 2020 schedule when they host Arizona State Friday night in the Huntsman Center. The meet will be the team’s first in nearly two weeks, when they took first place with a 197.000, beating in-state rivals, BYU, Southern Utah and Utah State (who they will face again in the regular season finale on March 13th).
ASU currently sits outside the top 25 with an average score of 194.842, placing them 29th in the most recent national rankings, just five spots ahead of USU, the Red Rocks’ lowest ranked opponent so far this season. Despite their low scoring efforts, senior Jessica Ginn has impressed in the early part of the season, notching a team-high 9.900 against Oklahoma on her floor routine, while maintaining a 9.7333 average on the vault and a 9.683 on the bars.
While the Red Rocks have only featured one all around competitor this season in freshman Maile O’Keefe (who posted a 39.125 in her first, and thus far only all around performance), ASU has a trio of competitors in freshmen Juliette Boyer, Gracie Reeves and Hannah Scharf, all of whom are averaging lower than 39.000 on the season, with Boyer leading the squad with a 38.950.
Coverage for Friday’s event will be available via PAC-12 Plus, which is available though PAC-12.com/live or through the PAC-12 Now mobile app, starting at 7:00 PM MT. A limited amount of tickets can still be purchased through UtahTickets.com
