It was bound to happen at some point, but we have a Ute in the transfer portal, and it’s running back Devonta’e Henry-Cole. Frankly, I think many of us were wondering if DHC may find himself in the portal at some point, mainly because he’s going to be a senior and the Utah running back room is so loaded with young talent. That’s not to say DHC wouldn’t have found the field this fall, it’s just the reps are not going to be as high as the two schools that he’s rumored to be looking at.

The twittersphere suggests he may go north to Logan, or South to Provo. I’d like to see him at Utah State, not because of a dislike for BYU, but because I think the situation up there is better and more stable. He’d be able to play for a conference title, and avoid the potential circus that BYU may turn into (that fan base is ready for a QB controversy at any moment).

DHC isn’t the biggest dude, but he averaged 5.5 yards per carry this last season, and he’s got the size and speed to come out of the backfield too. I’m not sure if he’s an every down back, because of his size, but he can be really productive for someone.

I’m bummed to see DHC go, because he was such a team guy for the Utes, but I understand his move to get more time on the field in his final season.

Here’s his official career information per UtahUtes.com
