PAC-12 Releases 7-game schedule - Utes to open against Arizona

NCAA Football: Utah at Oregon State Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

We’ve been here before, two other times actually, as the Pac-12 unveiled the schedule for the seven game schedule for the 2020 season. This is the third iteration of the schedule, as the Utes, of course, had their original 12 game schedule in the summer, then that was trimmed to a 10 game conference only schedule, which was axed, and now we have the seven game schedule which is slated to kick off in about a month.

Here’s the full schedule that was announced earlier this morning:

Nov 7: Arizona
Nov 13 (Friday): @UCLA
Nov 21: USC
Nov 28: @ASU
Dec 5: Oregon State
Dec 11: @Colorado
Dec 18 or 19: Pac-12 Championship Game or TBD

Overall, not a big surprise with the schedule, as it was determined the teams would play their five division foes and one cross over opponent, plus the “flex” opponent in the final week, whether that’s the conference title game or not. There were a lot of factors to determine the cross over opponent, but I thought we may still see Oregon in that slot, so seeing OSU was a surprise to me.

This is a schedule that Utah could navigate to compete for a championship, as long as a lot of the new faces, especially on defense, learn once fly and can manage this strange season. Having seven games in seven weeks can be challenging, considering we’ve seen a large number of games cancelled and/or postponed across the country so far this season, so there is no margin of error.
