Utah football adds 18 on early signing day

NCAA Football: Utah at Colorado Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Utes added to their roster with the signing of 18 new name during the early signing period, and they landed some big names in one of the best classes in school history. The Utes currently sit at No. 29 nationally with their current crop of kids, and are No. 4 in the Pac-12 according to 24/7sports.com.

The class is headlined by the four-star prospects. Ethan Calvert, a linebacker out of California, and a Utah legacy kid, was the top rated prospect for the Utes. Coming in just behind him was four-star QB Peter Costelli, who has been committed to the Utes forever, and is also out of California. Costelli has confirmed that he will be joining the team in January. The other four-star is Mason Tufaga, another linebacker, coming out of Hawaii.

With the loss of a couple of running backs, the Utes welcome in Ricky Parks out of Florida. Hopefully he can have a similar impact as the last running back from Florida. It’s a evenly split class, thus far, between offense and defense. It will be interesting, with the impact of COVID on scholarships, how the roster impacts will come into play in the coming years.

Overall, an exciting class, one that should compete for spots right away, especially given the number of freshmen that are already playing.
